Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi A3x in Kenya, targeting the budget smartphone segment. The device features a 6.71-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate, aiming to provide smoother scrolling and animations compared to standard 60Hz screens at this price point.
The phone sports a glass back design and measures 8.3mm in thickness. It’s equipped with an 8MP main camera and an unspecified auxiliary lens, along with a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies.
Under the hood, the Redmi A3x is powered by an octa-core T603 chipset. It offers up to 8GB of RAM (including 4GB of extended RAM) and a 5000mAh battery with Type-C charging. Xiaomi claims the battery retains 80% capacity after 800 charge cycles, though this hasn’t been independently verified.
Additional features include fingerprint and face unlock options, Corning Gorilla Glass for screen protection, and MicroSD card support for expandable storage up to 1TB.
The Redmi A3x is available in two variants:
- 3GB RAM + 64GB storage: KES 11,199 (approx. $78)
- 4GB RAM + 128GB storage: KES 12,899 (approx. $90)
Color options include Midnight Black, Star Blue, and Forest Green.
While the Redmi A3x offers some interesting features for its price, real-world performance and competition from other brands in this segment remain to be seen.
