Xiaomi has officially ended the development of HyperOS 2 and is now fully shifting focus to HyperOS 3, which will be based on Android 16.
The decision came to light after a user inquiry on the Xiaomi Feedback app was met with a response confirming the company’s plans to abandon further HyperOS 2 work and allocate all resources toward its next-generation operating system.
HyperOS 2 was expected to bring incremental improvements over the initial version, and many devices, such as the Xiaomi 13T, Redmi Note 13 series, and select POCO models, were promised the update by the end of 2024.
The company is no longer actively working on HyperOS 2 builds, signaling the end of its lifecycle far earlier than anticipated. While some devices have already received HyperOS 2, others may now skip it entirely.
HyperOS 3 Is Now the Focus
Xiaomi’s attention is now squarely on HyperOS 3, its upcoming major release that will ride on top of Android 16.
The new version is expected to deliver a more refined UI, improved performance, and smarter AI-powered features. The shift suggests that Xiaomi is aligning its strategy with Google’s Android release roadmap, ensuring it doesn’t fall behind in delivering a modern, AI-integrated mobile experience.
Devices such as the Xiaomi 15 series, Xiaomi 14 lineup, Xiaomi 13 and 13T, and high-end Redmi and POCO models are all expected to receive HyperOS 3 starting later in 2025. Early reports point to a Q4 2025 rollout, beginning in China before expanding globally.
What Happens to Devices Still Waiting for HyperOS 2?
According to community sources and feedback responses, Xiaomi may still push out basic maintenance or security updates, but no major features or HyperOS 2 updates are expected going forward.
That said, many of these devices, especially newer models like the 13T, Redmi Note 13 Pro+, and POCO F5, are confirmed to be eligible for HyperOS 3, meaning users could see a leap directly to Android 16-powered software in the near future.
Although it’s understandable that users who’ve been waiting months for HyperOS 2 may feel let down, there’s still a bright side.
Powered by Android 16, HyperOS 3 promises to deliver a more robust, future-ready, and feature-rich experience that makes the wait worthwhile.
