President William Ruto has yet again reshuffled his cabinet. As a result, Kenyans have a new minister of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy. Former Kiambu Governor and Juja MP, William Kabogo is the one to fill the docket that was briefly held by Dr. Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u.
In a span of five months, the ministry of ICT has now had three Cabinet Secretary after Eliud Owalo, who was the first appointee under President William Ruto’s regime.
Further, Hon. Salim Mvurya has been moved to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports. Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen has been transferred to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, a key portfolio left vacant following Kithure Kindiki’s appointment as Deputy President.
Former health CS Hon. Mutahi Kagwe is back in cabinet as Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Hon. Lee Kinyanjui, the former Governor of Nakuru County, has assumed the role of Cabinet Secretary within the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry.
The current ICT Cabinet Secretary, Ms. Margaret Nyambura, has been named the High Commissioner to Ghana. Meanwhile, former Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, has been appointed as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
William Kabogo’s Bio
Kabogo is 63 years of age and was born in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County. He holds a Bachelors of Commerce from Punjab University in India. Between 2002 to 2007, he served as the member of parliament Juja Constituency. After losing in the 2007 General Election, he came back via a by election to serve as MP from 2010 to 2013.
In 2013, he became the first Kiambu county governor, a role he served for only one term. Unlike his predecessor, he comes into the role with no known experience in the ICT sector.
