Human Mobile Devices (HMD) hosted its much-anticipated gaming competition, The Ultimate Gamer, this past weekend at The Waterfront Karen in Nairobi.
The tournament spotlighted popular titles like FIFA, Tekken, and Call of Duty, providing an immersive platform for competitors to battle it out for the grand prize of KES 75,000.
The two-day event attracted an impressive turnout, with over 70 players and 200 gaming enthusiasts attending to witness the rise of competitive mobile gaming in the region.
Central to the action was HMD’s latest innovation, the HMD Fusion smartphone, purpose-built to elevate the gaming experience with integrated gaming features such as physical buttons and joysticks.
According to Trends Tech, Maureen Kambona, HMD’s Regional Marketing Manager for West, East, and Central Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering local talent and enriching the gaming ecosystem.

With over 11 million Kenyans identifying as gamers, the tournament underscored the increasing importance of mobile devices in shaping the e-sports landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Partnering with The Ultimate Gamer Tournament, hosted by Radio Africa, allows us to celebrate Kenya’s vibrant gaming culture and demonstrate the transformative power of mobile technology,” Kambona said.
