WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Writing Help, which uses AI to assist users in adjusting the tone and style of their messages. The tool is intended to reduce miscommunication and improve clarity in everyday conversations.
When composing a message, users can tap on the pencil icon to access Writing Help. The feature then generates alternative versions of the text, offering options such as professional, supportive, humorous, or a simple proofread.
This allows users to select a version that best matches the context of their conversation.
According to the company, Writing Help runs on Meta’s private processing technology, which ensures that text is processed securely on the device.
WhatsApp has stated that neither the original messages nor the AI-generated suggestions are visible to the company or third parties, and independent audits have been conducted to verify these claims.
Writing Help is first being introduced in English and will be available in the US and a few other countries. The company plans to expand it to more languages and regions later this year.
This step-by-step rollout is similar to how WhatsApp usually launches new features, starting in limited markets before reaching a wider audience.
Writing Help comes after the launch of another AI-powered feature called message summaries, which gives WhatsApp users short digests of unread conversations.
Both tools are meant to make it easier to manage communication on the platform while still keeping end-to-end encryption and strong security in place.
