As the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off today, Google’s Gemini will be one of the key tech sponsors. The tech giant has picked Argentina, the defending champion, to carry Gemini branding on the team’s training kit.
However, this deal goes beyond brand visibility, as Google’s AI will be part of Argentina’s team’s preparation.
As the World Cup goes on for a month across 3 nations, the Argentine players and coaching staff will use Gemini models to break down plays and carry out data analysis on both their own and opponents’ game statistics.
Google and the Argentina Football Association (AFA) are bringing the efficiency and speed of AI into the World Cup for the first time. The tech company has not publicly disclosed which Gemini tools the South American country will use.

What is clear is that they are using the global showpiece to bring their flagship AI model into the tech-reliant world of football analysis.
“It’s not just about opening the door to AI but about understanding its real limits while improving experience,” says Google spokesperson Flor Sabatini.
AI has already featured in the English Premier League (EPL), with Microsoft as the main partner. Now, Google is also looking to combine football’s global appeal with emerging technologies to drive usage beyond Argentina.
“The passion that the Argentine national team arouses transcends Argentines. It is a shared emotion,” Sabatini added.
Beyond data analytics and brand visibility, the collaboration aims to strengthen fan engagement and how fans interact with the national teams online. Google highlighted its fan-facing features that will be available during the World Cup.
“Gemini can generate new visual elements—such as stats, images, and videos highlighting up-to-date information on the latest action across soccer games—transforming standard text responses into a visual, dynamic matchday hub,” the company wrote in a blog post.
