Things have been interesting at Huawei.

The technology company, which builds communication equipment and smart devices has been fighting a business ban with US companies. The development saw the corporation start selling Android phones without Google apps, but the blow has not stopped it from exploring other channels.

Huawei has since revealed its howe-grown HarmonyOS that is already installed in some of its China-only TVs.

The OS is huge, and is planned to be installed in smartphones, wearables and other Huawei consumer products.

The OS will launch for smartphones in 2021. A recent developer conference revealed that HarmonyOS will officially launch in publicly-available handhelds in 2021.

.

That is not all; Huawei says that it will upgrading existing phones on Android to HarmonyOS. The activities will be started next year too.

A leaked roadmap has projected update cycles, and appear to be interesting at first glance.

Reportedly, HarmonyOS will target wearable devices with up to 128 MB of RAM.

Afterward, the corporation will focus on smartphones and tablets with up to 4 GB of RAM.

The company reportedly says that by the end of 2021, the RAM count would have grown to include a wider lineup of its devices.

In other words, devices with substantial amounts of RAM will be updated later on during 2021. The devices include the Mates and the P series – which could include the P40 line (without Gapps) and P30 series (with Gapps), as well as the Mate 30 line (without Gapps). It should also be remembered that Huawei has not shied away from releasing the Mate 40 line that is slated for this month. The devices will, however, be sold in small batches due to limited interest from customers.

It is not apparent why Huawi would want to update the P30 line of phones to HarmonyOS when they already support Google apps. Nevertheless, we believe that Huawei will not be in a position to receive key OS updates and security patches and distribute them to the phones, making HarmonyOS an obvious option.

Furthermore, the political climate in the US could change, and Huawei might get a new platform to negotiate about the ban.

However, it is always a good thing to have an in-house solution because as history has proven, relying on other providers can prove problematic in the long run.

Lastly, here are devices that are eligible for the HarmonyOS upgrade: Huawei Mate 40, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+, Huawei Mate 40 RS Porsche Design, Huawei Mate X, Huawei Mate Xs, Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro, Huawei P40 Pro+, Huawei Mate 30 4G, Huawei Mate 30 Pro 4G, Huawei Mate 30 5G, Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G, Huawei Mate 30 RS Porsche Design, Huawei Nova 8 (Upcoming), Huawei Nova 8 Pro (Upcoming), Huawei Nova 7 Pro 5G, Huawei Nova 7 5G, Huawei Nova 7 SE, Huawei P30, Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei Mate 20, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Huawei Mate 20 X 4G, Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, Huawei Mate 20 RS, Huawei Nova 6 5G, Huawei Nova 6 SE.

Honor devices:  Honor V40 (Upcoming), Honor 30 Pro, Honor 30 Pro+, Honor V30, Honor V30 Pro, Honor Play 4 Pro, Honor X10 5G, Honor 30, Honor 30S, Honor X10 5G, Honor 20 Pro, Honor 20, Honor 9X, Honor 9X Pro.
