Samsung is expected to increase the number of members of the budget Galaxy J series of smartphones with the release of the Galaxy J3 any time now. The device which has been rumoured before, made an appearance on benchmarking sites (Geekbench and GFX Bench) and in the process bared it all.

Going by model number SM-J3109, the Galaxy J3 will pack a 5-inch HD display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz backed by an Adreno 306 GPU, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage run on Android 5.1 Lollipop as well as have support for NFC.

The Galaxy J3, like other devices in the Galaxy J series, is expected to be favourably priced as Samsung seeks to cement its hold of the low-end and mid-range market segments which have become increasingly competitive due to the increase in brands mostly from Asia that offer great value for money and have managed to eat into its market share in several countries.

The Galaxy J3’s announcement and eventual availability in the market will come just a few months after Samsung unveiled the Galaxy J1 Ace and the Galaxy J2. Galaxy J1 Ace, the successor to the popular Galaxy J1, is already on sale in the Kenyan market while the Galaxy J2 is expected to be available in early 2016.
