Notifications are an inseparable part of  smartphones and mobile apps where they are delivered as push notifications, badge count or within the app. The Facebook app delivers notifications in the aforementioned ways and now has added another way by launching a separate app.

The new app is called Notify and Facebook describes it as an app that delivers timely notifications about the things that matter to you, from the sources you love, all in one place. Facebook’s social graph is quite accurate in that it knows what you have liked and by using this data, it can be able to push all these notifications via this dedicated app.

So why need a separate app? Well this app makes it easier to personalize the content you need to see like sports, celebrity news and TV which have been added to the app. The app will use your Facebook profile to come up with suggestions for stations you may most likely want to receive notifications from.

The app will push all these notifications to your lockscreen where tapping will open the link in the inbuilt browser so as to view the content. Swiping it will add the notification to a tab within the app called “Saved Notifications” so that you can view the content later.

Facebook recently revamped the notifications tab with a card like format earlier and it seems the company is taking delivery of notifications seriously. This app will be great for those people who want to be kept abreast with information from various sources without necessarily login in on Facebook. Facebook wants to be the only source of news for its over 1.5 billion monthly active users and coupled with other services like Instant Articles, they may achieve their goal.

The app is only available for iPhone and in the US and you can check the app in action from this video
