Samsung is considering selling its printer business to HP according to reports appearing in sections of Korean media which the company has not responded to, yet.
Samsung’s printer business is valued at $1.8 billion and selling it off will see the company finally concede to rivals such as HP, Epson and others whom it has trailed in the printer market for years, a stark contrast to the smartphones and televisions business segments where it leads the pack.
The company is said to be considering making the sale so that it can focus on its core businesses.
According to the said report, a decision is likely to have been arrived at by next week when a possible announcement could be made.
HP split up last year with one company (HP Inc.) going all out to handle personal computers and printers while the other one (HP Enterprise) being tasked with selling computer systems (like servers), software and tech services. It is the former that Samsung is likely in talks with if at all it wants to offload its printer business.
