iPhone X launch

iPhone X launchApple’s most expensive device yet, the iPhone X (Roman 10), has just hit Kenyan shelves. The device which was launched on Friday by Redington will be available officially through Safaricom shop, Elite Digital, Mac & More, Personal Systems, Salute iWorld and PhoneLink at a staggering price of about Ksh.130,000 ($1250).

As you take in that price, here’s what you’ll be getting with the iPhone X:

  • 5.8″ AMOLED Display
  • iOS 11.2
  • A11 Bionic Chip, 3GB RAM
  • Dual 8MP back camera with dual OIS, Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting, 4K video recording up to 60 fps and 2x optical zoom
  • 7MP selfie camera with HDR
  • 64GB internal storage
  • 2716mAh battery
  • All-glass design with a stainless steel frame
  • IP67 Rating for water and dust resistant
  • Wireless charging

However, the major highlights of the iPhone X are; that new, almost bezel-less design, Face ID that comes to replace TouchID since Apple could not fit a fingerprint reader at the front and they couldn’t get themselves to be like everyone else and put it on the back like everyone else and finally Augmented Reality.

“This amazing device has an all-screen display that precisely follows the curve of the device with no border allowance. The entire face of the phone is a screen…” said Sajan Thomas, Regional Business Head East Africa for Redington during the unveiling of the device.

However, the most “I got an iPhone X and you don’t” feature is Animoji. Which is basically animated emojis. The exciting bit is that the animation is done by you, somehow. You record a small clip using the selfie camera and the Animoji will mimic what you’re doing, you can then share these clips with friends over iMessage.

For those who are still stunned by the price, do not despair, Elite Digital, one of the official retailers will be offering a payment option for the iPhone X. A downpayment of 30% of the phone’s price will be required, thereafter, a monthly installment of at least Ksh.14,965, until your payment is completed.

The iPhone X 64GB will retail at $1250 and the 128GB model will retail at $1400. Upon purchase of the iPhone X, you will receive a Belkin wireless charger.
