CallsFestive seasons are often marked by deals that range from product/service discounts to promotions by mobile operators. Airtel Kenya has joined this race with a new promotional product dubbed ChapaStori, which will see subscribers enjoy free Airtel to Airtel calls, as well as KES 1 for calls made to other networks. This effectively makes the offer the lowest we have seen compared to similar promotions offered by rival carriers.

The product comes in two bundles: one that costs KES 15 for a 24-hour stretch, and a 3-day bundle for KES 30. In either choice, customers will enjoy the benefits mentioned until the end of January 2019.

So, what’s the catch? Well, on-net calls will not entirely be unlimited as they will be capped at 100 minutes per day. This means that the KES 30 bundle will pack 300 minutes in Airtel to Airtel calls, which is still impressive for those who make a lot of phone calls. We also doubt most of you will be on phone for that long, but it is always good to know your voice calls are covered without hurting your airtime expenditure.

“This new offering espouses our philosophy on products which are easy to use, easy to subscribe to, without any hidden charges or conditions. This is unlike products being offered by other telcos,” said Airtel’s Managing Director, Prasanta Das Sarma.

In other news, Airtel Kenya’s voice traffic for the first quarter of the 2018/2019 FY rose, a trend that was also replicated by Telkom. What’s more, the carrier’s subscriber base grew by 700,000 to 10.4 million from June to September 2018. The carrier hopes products like ChapaStori will be attractive to more users as it looks forward to pushing its 22.3% market share.
