Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 Review

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 was launched late last month and I have been using this as my daily driver for that duration. The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is a pretty decent budget phone but how does it hold up in the long run?

Display and Design

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 display

The 6.26″ full view display plus the dewdrop notch work perfectly. It is rich, vibrant and gorgeous to look at. No complaints whatsoever about the display. The speakers work well too for a smartphone. For the past month, any media consumption such as watching YouTube, movies, listening to music was absolutely entertaining.

I removed the on-screen navigation buttons and replaced them with gestures to fully immerse myself when using the display. This came in handy especially when I was reading web articles or some of my favourite thriller novels such as the Kay Scarpetta off of the Kindle app. Gestures let you go back from anywhere on the screen so you don’t have to stretch your hands all the way to the bottom of the phone.

The Huawei Y7 Prime comes with eye-catching looks. The phone comes in Midnight black, Aurora blue and the Coral Red colours. The back has a 3D arc design on the sides to make it easy on the hand. You’ll want to put a case on this one as it easily gets scratches and fingerprint smudges. There’s a transparent one provided in the box that will do the job and still allow you to enjoy seeing how beautiful your phone is, depending on whatever colour you pick.

Performance

We have the Snapdragon 450 powering the phone and it did a stellar job. When combined with the 3 GB of RAM, the performance again is top notch. The EMUI on isn’t as ridiculously heavy as previous versions so I had smoother user interactions and less glitchy.

Let’s talk storage. You get 32GB of storage which should be sufficient for you but if you’re into hoarding multimedia content, you get an expandable storage slot that allows you to use a MicroSD card with up to 256 GB of memory and that is crazy for a budget phone like this one.

In my time of using the phone, I haven’t even reached to close what the phone offers in terms of storage. If you use a lot of cloud storage or like storing things locally, the 32 GB will be decent for you.

Gaming on the Huawei Y7 Prime was quite an enjoyable experience too. The neat features on the Game suite ensure you get a great mobile gaming experience. The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is not a gaming phone but for the casual gamer, the experience will serve you well.

Camera

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 Cameras

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 packs 13MP and 2MP dual rear cameras ad a 16MP selfie snapper on the front. When it comes to the photography department, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 takes pretty decent photos during the day with enough lighting and patience.

The Huawei Y7 Prime carries more scene recognition with its dual AI cameras and that gives you more room to take even better photos. In low light, the phone struggles although the night mode on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 tries to bring out the best of what the camera shot. It’s not perfect at times since some shots got overexposed and others underexposed.

Battery life

Battery life on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is crazy good. I can safely call the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 an almost 2-day phone according to me. I would normally get a day and a half on those days I have no life and nothing else to do but stare on my phone all day. After plugging it out at dawn, I would generally go till very late at night before I need to charge it after heavy usage which is brilliant.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 uses intelligent power management features to utilize the battery’s capacity better and even squeeze more out when the time calls for it.

Final sentiments

If you have the money to get the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019, go ahead and purchase it. The incremental upgrades over last year’s Huawei Y7 Prime and the 2019 tech trends in terms of specs included making the phone worth it as a budget phone to get in the first place.

The phone is available at Huawei and Telkom retail stores for Ksh 17,999. You can get it online too. Safaricom is selling the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 for Ksh 18,999 and you get free 2GB of data. You can also get it at other selected retail shops in a town near you.

On the whole, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is one of the best devices on the market right now. For the sort of all-around whole package phone and if you want to tick as many boxes as possible, then the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is going to do that.

You certainly are not going to be dissatisfied or unhappy with the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019. What you get for the money is just ridiculous and at this price point making it hard not to recommend this phone to everyone.
