Huawei has kicked off a campaign that offers discounts on their new Y series devices that will run until September.
The company says that this will be a two week offer running till September 6th on the Y5p, Y6p, Y7p, Y8p and the nova7I. Consumers that shop these devices during this time might walk away with Bluetooth headphones and other gift hampers.
“As we embark on the last quarter of the year, we are kicking off on ground activities across the country to increase our market share in the mi\d-range category,” Jin Zhujie, Huawei Mobile Kenya Country Head said. “With the introduction of various Y series devices that came with Huawei AppGallery, we are determined to ensure that all our consumers get their value for money.”
Huawei also announced the recommended retail prices for the various phones.
- Y5p – Kshs 9,799
- Y6p – Kshs 14,999
- Y7p – Kshs 18,499
- Y8p – Kshs 24,999
- nova7I – Kshs 29,999
The Y5p is their cheapest phone in this list with a 720p display and an arc design for a comfortable grip. The Y6p’s killer feature is the huge 5000mAh battery and a 13MP triple camera setup. I used the Y7p and it has a 48MP main camera and was the first phone with no Google services from Huawei in Kenya. The Y8p has the Y7p’s 48MP camera but adds more RAM and a better 1080p screen. The nova7I is the ‘flagship’ of the lot with its better System on a Chip (Kirin 810), more RAM and a slightly bigger battery than the Y8p.

The company revealed that they have seen an “upward” growth in this category which is not a surprise. Most Kenyans buy phones below Kshs 30,000 and Huawei has been pumping phones in this market below that price point. This year, they started with the slow release of phones that did not possess Google apps.
