With more than 64 percent market share in Kenya, safaricom is the obvious leader in the telco space. It has more than 30 million 30-day active M-PESA customers. Its mobile money market share is at 99.9 percent, which basically means it owns the space, whereas the rest, namely Airtel Money and T-Kash (Equitel is not counted as a mobile money product) are just as insignificant.
Treasury is planning to slash M-PESA fees in an annoucement that was made official by the CS of the Ministry of Finance Ukur Yatani. This, however, is a lobby that will be discussed widely by the industry, and is likely going to take a while before any sigfincant adjutsments are made.
