TECNO is really bringing the heat with its range of devices from this year. We got the flagship Phantom X2, the flagship Phantom V Fold, the affordable Spark 10 series and now we get the midrange Camon 20 series that just launched a few days ago.

TECNO have outdone themselves with their latest camera centric lineup.

Right off the box, we get a matte case which I’ve really loved. It has a nice feel to it. We get a 45W charger, Type-C cable, Type-C headphones, sim ejector pin and the phone itself.

Picking up the phone you’ll start to get its premiumness. The back is made from TECNO’s new Magic Skin technology featuring the Puzzle Deconstructionist Design. We get lychee-pattern leather for the back and nano-crystalline ceramic for the camera island. The design implements 20 irregular ribs for the back pattern.

The back panel feels really good to the touch and you might want to ditch the included case. The sides are glossy and flat. Our unit comes in Dark Welkins but you can get yours in Serenity Blue.

The Camon 20 was the gold winner in the MUSE Design Awards 2023 under the Product Design Telecommunications category. The design is modern and sleek as seen on high-end yachts and automotive interiors.

The texture is soft as well for easy cleaning. It’s waterproof, heat and cold resistant, stain and abrasion resistant. The finish is made from a unique blend of polymers and micro-particles which create a skin-friendly, stylish and easy-to-clean coating that’s both visually appealing and functional as well.

The front we get a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is beautiful and the dual stereo speakers add to a more immersive multimedia experience when consuming content on the phone.

For biometrics, we get face unlock and an optical underdisplay fingerprint reader which is fast for unlocking the phone.

Overall the design is lovely and exudes premiumness.

The Camon 20 Premier ships with Android 13 and HiOS 13. It is powered by Dimensity 8050 chipset paired with Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. It comes with 8GB of RAM and upto 8GB virtual RAM. Our unit has 512GB of onboard storage.

So far tasks are handled very smoothly including app switching, scrolling and gaming thanks to the fast refresh rate and powerful software and hardware combination. We’ll see how this performance holds up in our full review so make sure you have subscribed so you don’t miss out.

The Camon 20 Premier 5G has a triple rear setup that includes a 50MP primary lens with sensor shift stabilization accompanied by a 108MP ultrawide lens with macro capabilities. There’s a octa-ring flash to help with macro shots. These two lenses have autofocus. The third lens is a 2MP depth sensor.

For the front we have a 32MP selfie camera and dual LED flash. Video recording is capped at 4K 30fps for the rear cameras and 1440p(2K) 30fps for the selfie camera.

We’ll be testing the cameras in the next few days to check out the improvements in photography on the Camon 20 Premier 5G so stay tuned for our full review.

Keeping the lights on is a 5000mAh battery which supports 45W wired fast charging. Well be checking out the phone’s endurance in our full review.

Overall this is a premium phone packing heavy features especially in the camera department and I’ve loved the improvements made so far which well talk about in our full review.

Camon 20 Premier 5G goes for Ksh Ksh 50,999 at TECNO’s official retail stores countrywide, select official Safaricom shops and on e-commerce platforms as well.
