Google Contacts has introduced a redesigned settings interface, streamlining access to contact management options. Previously hidden within the three-dot (or “meatballs”) menu, these options are now more visible and accessible. The updated UI includes clear icons and simplified navigation for frequently used settings like managing contact details, linking and merging duplicates, and customizing contact lists.
The new design for Google Contacts is included in the latest version of the app, 4.30.50.628193927. While Google has not yet rolled out this version through the Play Store, Android Authority contributor and tipster Assemble Debug managed to sideload the update from APKMirror and shared the details.
Key Changes
- Icon-Based Interface: Replacing text-heavy menus, the new design features icons for a more user-friendly experience.
- Quick Access to Key Features: Functions such as merging duplicates, setting favorites, and contact linking are now easier to locate and use.
- Enhanced Customization Options: Users can now customize contact views and filters more intuitively, allowing a more tailored experience when managing contacts.
- “Reminders” Option: A new feature for setting birthday and anniversary reminders for contacts, making it easier to remember important dates.
The new favorite button now appears at the top, this allows you to easily mark a contact as a favorite during the creation process. Additionally, the “Add field” button now opens a dialog to add specific details. Rather than filling the entire screen with input fields, as it did in the previous design.
Why It Matters
This redesign makes Google Contacts more efficient for users, especially those with large contact lists or who frequently manage contact information. By eliminating the extra steps of the meatball menu, Google aims to improve accessibility and streamline contact management for both personal and professional users.
