After all the reports, leaks and speculation, it is now time for South Korean tech giant Samsung to unveil the long-anticipated Galaxy S25 Series live from California, USA at the first edition of the Galaxy Unpacked 2025. It would be a lie to say that after all the reports from industry insiders, we don’t have a good idea of what to expect from the launch event.
One UI 7
As expected, the new Samsung mobile operating system is receiving a major update with One UI 7 launching with new exciting and interactive features designed to personalise user experiences through AI functionality. As announced by Samsung president and head of mobile experience TM Roh, Gemini 2.0 will be a part of the system as Samsung continue its partnership with Google.
Screen Share and Live Video streaming will be some of the new features rolling out to the S25 series allowing users to easily integrate AI features to get real-time help from Gemini. So you can get to easily ask the AI to help you with a recipe by sharing a video of what food you want to make, for instance.
Galaxy AI
The system will also continue to push its integration with Samsung’s in-house artificial intelligence model Galaxy AI through more various personalised features.
The AI model is now set to bring in a new overview window of your day called Now Brief. The window is set to include everything about a user’s full day from daily news to real-time weather updates, and schedules. This is made possible through Personal Data Engine that allows Galaxy AI to gather and analyse information about one’s daily patterns and even memories.
The AI will now be able to recommend any tools you might need to use depending on the task you are performing in real-time. So if you are texting or viewing an image, your phone will recommend a tool to use to edit or optimise the piece of content fast enough. The model can also analyse the files in your phone and allow you to quickly ask it to search for it by simply describing the kind of file you are looking for.
Circle To Search will also receive a couple of new improvements.
Android XR
As expected, Samsung is now expected to fully enter the world of AR/VR through its new headset, a model that is set to rival Apple Vision Pro. However, this new system called Android XR that will be integrated into the headset got the briefest of mentions. Too bad!
Snapdragon 8 Elite
The latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm is confirmed to power the Samsung Galaxy S25 series bringing in a new level of performance while maintaining ideal levels of power and thermals no matter the workload. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is a big reason why. It’s described as the engine behind Galaxy AI, thanks to an on-device NPU. Samsung is also touting performance and efficiency gains. As Samsung puts it, the processor will ensure “unparalleled battery life”.
The processor will bring in a boost to gaming performance with 40% enhancement on ray-tracing making sure you can get more graphic details on your mobile games.
Camera Bump
The Galaxy S25 series has received camera improvements with the S25 Ultra, particularly getting a 50MP lens to replace the 12MP sensor from previous editions.
On the software part, AI will be fully integrated to introduce a list of new features meant to optimise the images and videos you capture in real-time. One of those features is Log Video which lets users capture a wider dynamic range for better flexibility during the editing process. Another is Audio Eraser which lets you remove unwanted noise, like overly loud background noise like the sound of wind captured by the camera’s microphone.
Galaxy S25 Series
Without a big fuss, Samsung went straight to launching the Samsung Galaxy S25 lineup that will include the regular edition, the S25+ and the S25 Ultra.
This was later followed by a mic drop moment teasing an all new model dubbed the Galaxy S25 Edge which Samsung just showed through a dark sequence of a slim device. So we can only guess that this will be the ultra slim model that had been rumoured for a while. Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to wait for the device to be unveiled later this year.
