Truecaller, the popular caller identification and spam-blocking app, has finally introduced real-time caller ID functionality for iPhone users. This long-awaited update, previously available only on Android devices, brings new convenience to iOS by enabling users to instantly identify incoming calls.
The feature leverages Apple’s iOS 18 Live Caller ID Lookup, which allows third-party apps like Truecaller to securely display caller information during an incoming call. To make this possible, Truecaller has developed a specialized encrypted database tailored specifically for iPhone users.
Setting up this functionality requires users to configure a Siri Shortcut within the Truecaller app. Once set up, iPhone users can simply say, “Siri, search Truecaller” when receiving a call from an unknown number. This command prompts the app to fetch and display the caller’s details on the screen, creating a seamless experience for managing calls.
To activate the new feature, users can go to iPhone Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
The company’s Product Director Nakul Kabra explained that the process is resource-intensive but effective. Despite minor delays, real-time caller ID works well in most cases, as confirmed during TechCrunch’s beta testing.
It is important to note that the Live Caller ID feature is exclusive to Truecaller’s premium subscribers. Upgrading to a premium subscription not only grants access to this feature but also unlocks other benefits, such as an ad-free interface, advanced spam-blocking options, and more.
