Infinix is once again pushing the boundaries of foldable technology with its newest innovation – the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold concept phone.
Unveiled just days before Mobile World Congress 2025, this unique device features a triple-folding mechanism with dual hinges that fold vertically into itself, creating what might be the most compact foldable on the market.
Unlike traditional foldables that simply expand into tablets, the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold transforms between three distinct form factors:
- A compact unit (reportedly credit card-sized when fully folded)
- A standard smartphone when partially unfolded
- A full-sized device when completely extended
The outward-folding design enables multiple use cases beyond just a larger screen. When folded in specific configurations, the device can function as a hands-free display for workouts, a versatile camera system, or even a real-time translation tool.
Practical Applications
Infinix has emphasized the device’s versatility by showcasing several innovative use cases, including:
- Fitness companion: An included strap accessory allows users to mount the device on gym equipment or bicycle handlebars for workout tracking.
- Action camera: The compact form can be attached to backpack straps or other surfaces for hands-free photography.
- Translation assistant: The folded configuration creates a dual-screen experience where two people can view translated content simultaneously.
- Navigation: When mounted on a car dashboard, it serves as a convenient GPS display.
Currently, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design is the only commercially available triple-fold smartphone. However, Samsung has also teased an upcoming triple-folding device at its Galaxy Unpacked event in January, suggesting growing competition in this segment.
While most foldable devices focus on expanding screen real estate, Infinix’s concept prioritizes compactness and versatility. The design appears similar to the Infinix Zero Flip when folded, featuring a hole-punch cutout and dual camera system.
As of now, Infinix hasn’t announced specifications or a potential release date for the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold. It is, after all, only a concept. At least for now. More details are expected during MWC 2025, where the concept will likely be showcased.
If Infinix can turn the Zero Series Mini Tri-Fold into a reality and prove that a single device can replace multiple gadgets through innovative folding mechanisms, it can challenge conventional approaches to smartphone design and change the future of smartphones.
