Google is offering a one-year subscription to the Google AI Pro plan to eligible students in Kenya and seven other African countries. The program will also be available in Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.
To qualify for the free trial, students must be 18 years or older and prove that they are currently enrolled at a participating educational institution.
Eligible students will get access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and Deep Research, 2TB of Google Drive storage, higher limits for NotebookLM, and access to other AI creation tools.
However, the eligible institutions in Kenya for the program have not yet been chosen.
For the students, Gemini 2.5 Pro’s Deep Research feature will help in creating custom reports and providing in-depth information from hundreds of web sources. It will also help them with assignments and writing.
The tech giant is also strengthening local capacity through significant investments in education and research. Over the past four years, African universities and research institutions have received more than $17 million (KES 2.19 billion) in funding, alongside curriculum support, training opportunities, and access to AI models.
