Last week, Rockstar Games officially postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), again, to November 19, 2026.
Originally expected in May 2026, this delay marks the second major postponement for the title, which is arguably the most anticipated game right now, globally.
Rockstar says the delay will give the development team more time to polish the game’s advanced mechanics, expand the open-world gameplay, and create a better overall experience for players.
The studio is also addressing internal production challenges, including reducing employee crunch, a move that indicates growing industry awareness about the impact of extended overtime on staff well-being.
Polish Parliament Reacts, Calling It a “Huge Scandal”
As expected, the delay quickly made headlines beyond the gaming community. In Poland, parliament member Witold Tumanowicz denounced the postponement as a “huge scandal” and suggested that public protests should follow.
Meanwhile, Piers Harding-Rolls, research director at Ampere Analysis, noted that GTA 6 is likely to be a major driver of hardware sales.
Analysts believe Sony and Microsoft may postpone the release of their next-generation consoles, including the PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox, until 2028 so they can make the most of the game’s huge popularity.
If this is true, the delayed release of GTA 6 could make the last few years of the current console generation even more profitable.
Historically, GTA releases have had a profound impact on console success. GTA V, for example, launched late in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 life cycles and later saw re-releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and eventually PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The franchise’s repeated cross-platform strategy has consistently boosted hardware adoption and sustained interest for years after initial launches.
For now, GTA 6 is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with potential future releases on PC.
