Samsung plans to expand Galaxy AI so it can work with other AI services on the phone instead of only using Samsung’s own assistant. Until now, most of its AI features have relied on Samsung’s in-house tools, but this change will allow support for outside options.
The first major partner under this new direction is Perplexity. Users on upcoming flagship Samsung Galaxy devices will be able to invoke it directly with the wake phrase “Hey Plex” or via quick-access controls.
More importantly, Perplexity won’t just live in its own app; it’ll be woven into Samsung’s native apps, including Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar, enabling multi-step tasks without the usual app-hopping.
Samsung’s larger goal is to let Galaxy AI coordinate between different AI tools depending on what you’re trying to do, rather than forcing everything through one assistant. It’s a shift from “here’s our AI” to “here’s a system that brings in the right AI for the job.”

This approach is not unique to Samsung. Apple has done something similar by building ChatGPT into iOS so people can use it without opening another app.
Google’s Gemini has evolved from a simple assistant into a tool that can handle emails, schedule calendar events, and work with third party apps on Android. Microsoft is following the same path with Copilot, especially in workplace software.
It is not only the big names involved. Xiaomi and OPPO are also part of the shift, with Xiaomi’s HyperOS focusing on AI across devices, while OPPO is working with Google Cloud to bring AI features to more phones.
