If you have tried to use Claude recently and found it unresponsive, you are not alone. Recently, a growing number of users have taken to social media and community forums to report that Claude is “down” again.
Users describe a frustrating experience where prompts return empty results or the system simply hangs, leaving them wondering if the problem is with their internet connection or the service itself.

While technical glitches are common for high-traffic websites, the current instability coincides with a major legal and regulatory battle that has been developing behind the scenes.
Anthropic recently issued a statement confirming it has been forced to suspend access to its most advanced new model, Claude Fable 5, following a directive from the United States government.
The suspension comes after US authorities raised alarms over the sheer power of Fable 5. According to Anthropic’s official statement, the government issued an export-control directive citing national security risks.
Officials expressed concerns that the model’s advanced reasoning could be used to assist in cyberattacks or that foreign actors could bypass its safety “guardrails” through “jailbreaking.”
Anthropic has publicly disagreed with the severity of these concerns, stating,
“These vulnerabilities all appear relatively simple, and we have found that other publicly available models are able to discover them as well without requiring a bypass… the net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.”
For the average user, these disputes translate into a less reliable service, while the sudden removal of advanced models and the resulting technical adjustments have likely contributed to the “elevated error rates” reported on official status pages.
While Anthropic works to fix these issues and clarify its relationship with the government, users may continue to experience occasional outages. For now, Fable 5 and Mythos 5 remain unavailable until the safety concerns are resolved.
