I&M Group has appointed Abdi Mohamed as the new chief executive officer of I&M Bank Kenya. The bank said the move is part of its strategy to strengthen leadership and accelerate growth.
“We are delighted to welcome Abdi to I&M Group at an exciting and important time in our journey as we continue to scale our business, deepen customer relationships, strengthen our market leadership, and create sustainable value for all our stakeholders.” Sarit Raja-Shah, Group Executive Director, I&M Group PLC, said.
The appointment, announced in Nairobi on 29 June 2026, follows Mohamed leaving his role as country CEO and managing director of ABSA Bank Kenya, a position he served in for 3 years. It is still subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).
This latest position is another step in his career in banking, financial services, and corporate leadership that now spans 3 decades and a number of countries.
Abdi Mohamed’s executive experience includes roles as CEO of Absa Bank Tanzania, chief operating officer for Barclays Bank Kenya, and retail and business banking director for both Kenya and Zambia.
Currently, Abdi Mohamed serves as the chairman of the U.N. Global Compact, Kenya chapter and serves on the board of Touch Health, Inc.
He also serves on the board of Integrated Payment Systems Limited (IPSL), the Kenya Banking Association (KBA) subsidiary behind PesaLink.
