How Much Does it Cost to Install CCTV in Kenya? (2026)

CCTV means Closed-Circuit Television – your personal security eyes when you are not around.

Closed-circuit television means private video surveillance. German engineers first used it in 1942 to track V-2 rockets. American scientists later adapted it for atomic tests. Today, many Kenyans use the same principle to guard what matters most.

CCTV is no longer optional for serious property owners. It is the silent force that turns vulnerability into control. From home compounds to business premises, the right system watches when you cannot.

In 2026, you have 3 choices of the types of CCTV you can choose:

  1. 1. Analog / Wired (DVR): Cheapest. Uses coaxial cables. Needs a DVR recorder.
  2. 2. IP / Wireless Wi-Fi (NVR): Clearer picture, uses internet, you can watch on phone.
  3. 3. 4G / Solar SIM Cameras: New in 2026. No Wi-Fi needed, no power needed. Perfect for shamba, construction site, rentals in rural areas. Uses Safaricom/Airtel SIM and solar panel.

How Much Does CCTV Installation Cost in Kenya in 2026?

Expect to pay between KES 5,000 and KES 75,000. Many four-camera setups clear KES 50,000. The work covers mounting cameras, running RJ45 or coaxial cables, fitting recorders, configuring internet links, and connecting a monitor.

The Decisions That Decide Everything

Choose wireless IP cameras for flexibility and easier placement. Choose wired analog systems for rock-solid reliability where internet is unstable.

Storage choice matters just as much: cloud (NVR) or on-site (DVR). Add motion detection, high resolution, night vision, and professional monitoring, and the price climbs fast.

What Affects the Price?

  • Number of cameras – Larger compounds need more cameras
  • Camera quality – 2MP (1080p) vs 5MP vs 8MP (4K)
  • Wired vs Wireless/Solar Storage – 500GB, 1TB, 2TB or Cloud storage
  • Height and size of building – storey building needs more cabling
  • Night vision and AI features – Human detection, number plate reading costs more
  • Outdoor cameras must be fully weatherproof

Camera Prices That Actually Matter

Entry-level Hikvision 1 MP Fixed Turret cameras sit around KES 2,500 with solid weather resistance.

EZVIZ TY1 Smart Wi-Fi Pan & Tilt 1080p units cost about KES 7,400 and deliver full 360-degree coverage.

Hikvision and Dahua mid-range bullet and dome cameras typically land between KES 8,000 and KES 15,000.

Serious PTZ models with long-range infrared climb to KES 36,000 – KES 70,000.

Premium options such as the Ring Video Doorbell Elite reach roughly KES 75,000 with two-way talk and sharp 1080p video.

Higher prices buy stronger night vision, AI human detection, louder alarms, and better weather sealing. Match the features to your exact risk level instead of buying the most expensive option on the shelf.

Choose once. Install properly. Sleep better.

How to Spot a Real Professional CCTV Installer

Currently in Kenya, there is no official licensing board for CCTV installers. Protect yourself with these non-negotiables:

  • They conduct a proper site survey before quoting
  • They offer flexible installation dates so you can be present
  • They provide clear warranties when selling cameras plus installation
  • They operate from a real office you can visit
  • They deliver after-sales and technical call support
  • Their past customer reviews stand up to scrutiny

Final Advice for 2026

If you live in a rental or a bedsitter, don’t buy wired. Buy one EZVIZ TY1 or Xiaomi 360° Wi-Fi camera (KES 6,000). Plug and play.

If you have your own home or shop, buy 4 cameras of above 5MP resolution. It will see faces and number plates at night in full color. If your property has no power or Wi-Fi, buy 4G Solar SIM camera.
