Huawei Mate 20 and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro officially launched in Kenya today. The official launch of the Mate and the Mate 20 Pro will give Kenyan consumers a chance to experience Huawei’s award-winning Mate series of phones which are now in their fifth iteration.

Here’s what to expect from the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro

The Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro come with a glass front and back that features a square-ish camera set up at the back that houses the new 3 Leica camera sensors. In terms of display, the Mate 20 Pro packs a 6.39″ 1440 x 3120 pixel curved OLED screen in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio while the Mate packs a 6.53″ 1080 x 2244 pixel LCD screen in an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Both phones have facial recognition powered by AI and notches of different sizes. The Mate 20 Pro has a bigger notch to house even more sensors than the tear-dropped notch one found on the Mate 20.

They’re both powered by Kirin 980 SoC so expect a great performance. The Mate Pro comes in 6 or 8GB RAM variants with 128 or 512GB internal storage. The Mate 20 packs 4/6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage but this doesn’t mean it will lag behind in performance. Both phones support MicroSD cards(nano versions) with up to 256GB.

The phones both spot 24MP selfie cameras. The Mate 20 Pro features a 40MP sensor, a 20MP monochrome sensor with an ultra-wide lens and an 8MP telephoto sensor with OIS. The Mate 20 packs a 12MP main sensor, a 16MP wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. The cameras pack multiple AI-powered features to take even better shots with more added scene detections. Other cool features include Wireless Reverse charging on the Mate 20 Pro and bigger batteries on both phones. More specs of the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20.

Where can I get the Huawei Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro and for how much?

The Huawei Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro will be available in official Huawei stores and other retail stores from Monday next week. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro will sell at Ksh 99,999 while the Huawei Mate 20 will sell at Ksh 74,999.

“Consumer expectations are rising and in the race to bring the best Android smartphone to market, Huawei is leading the rapid development of technologies that help improve device performance to satisfy those needs. The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro offers consumers a compelling combination of high performance, longer battery life, advanced security, and a greater photography and videography experience through its Leica Ultra-Wide Angle Lens camera. Powered by its own in-house designed Kirin 980 AI chip, this advanced chip is fabricated with leading 7nm process technology, packing 6.9 billion transistors into a form factor the size of a fingernail.” said Steven Li, Head of Eastern Africa Mobile.
