MySafaricom app has recently received an update (version 1.4.1 on iOS) with features from the old app which is good news to some people.
One of the most requested features from the old app is MPESA Global and it has been finally added to the new app. MPESA Global was introduced 3 years ago as a way for you to to transact with other international financial services like PayPal and Western Union. The omission of this feature on the MySafaricom app was a big one and they have finally fixed it.
The other major features that they have added with the new update are related to data. Safaricom added their data manager feature that prevents your airtime from being gobbled up when you finish your data bundles. There is a data save feature that ensures your data “last longer” with the catch being at reduced speeds when you enable it. You can also check your data and airtime usage which can be filtered by date and we saw this first with the new M-Ledger like feature update on the MySafaricom app.
Finally, they also added their Tunukiwa data bundle offerings under the Data, Calls & SMS Airtime menu. The Tunukiwa menu allows you to access customized bundles that are packaged as deals outside the regular bundle offerings.
This update comes a few days after Safaricom started doing a wider beta test of their standalone MPESA app which has proven to be quite cool after days of use.
