Android devices have long had Qi wireless charging – it’s not only available on Apple devices. Apple devices have had Qi wireless charging. They have also had a magnetic alignment, known as Magsafe – an Apple trademark. This magnetic feature lets attachments snap onto the devices. It was missing on Android devices until Infnix Magcharge. It is their version of Apple’s “MagSafe” magnetic charger. Let’s deep dive into this device and find out what the Infinix Note 40 Pro has to offer.
Charging:
Other companies have tried to step in. They offer MagSafe-compatible cases or adapters for Android phones. But the experience hasn’t been uniform and consistent. The magnets on cases may be weak or have slow charging speeds. The Infinix Note 40 Pro fixes this. It has a Magcharge 20-watt wireless charger. This is a fast wireless charger no doubt. It also comes with a Magcharge phone case as part of the bundle you get when you buy the device.
The impressive charging tech doesn’t stop here. Infnix also includes a 70-watt multispeed charger in the box. The charger can top up the Infinix 4,600 mAh battery from 10% to 90% charge in an impressive 30 minutes.
Bypass charging is a great addition for when you’re playing games or watching movies. It works by bypassing the battery for those tasks. It powers the phone directly, preventing battery overheating.
Pricing:
There’s much more fascinating charging tech, but let’s first introduce this device. The Infinix Note 40 series includes 3 models: the Infinix Note 40, Infinix Note 40 Pro, and Infinix Note 40 Pro+. I only have the Note 40 Pro. The official pricing for the Kenyan market is KES 31,099, KES 38,699 and KES 49,199 respectively.
The retail package comes with the “obligatory” sim tool and a colour-matched phone case. I have the leather-textured, vintage green case. It feels premium and grippy. It’s not a typical clear jelly plastic case. This is a slim, hard-shell case of high quality. In the box, you also get a 20-watt wireless Magcharge charger and a 70-watt multispeed charger. You also get a tempered screen protector as well as a pair of USB-C earphones, for those who still need wired earphones. This is a hefty lot for such good value.
Design:
Without exaggeration, this phone looks amazing. The slim profile has curved glass edges. It has an aluminium camera module at the back. These features give this device a premium look and feel. I have a gold-marbled one and a green leather-textured one. In my opinion, the green one looks and feels much better.
The screen is 6.67 inches and curved. It is an OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This makes for smooth graphics, great for media and games. Even with the provided case, the phone feels light and I had to convince my friends that it was an Infinix.
Camera:
The rear camera module has a 108MP shooter. Two 2MP depth sensors and a large round LED flash pair with it. This is quite reminiscent of the Vivo’s aura light. The flash also serves as a notification light named the halo light. The halo light can be customized for different animations. It also shows when the device is being charged. The 108MP lens gives you a decent 3X zoom, while the software does a good enough job in High dynamic range (HDR) and low-light scenes.
A 32MP selfie camera up front does a decent job of capturing clear selfies.
Performance:
The Infinix Note 40 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 chip. It has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’s an okay chip. I did not need a faster chip for daily tasks like web browsing, social media scrolling, and light gaming. But, it may not be good for high-end gaming or resource-heavy apps. But for most users, the Note 40 Pro is reliable for daily activities. It offers an optimal experience. The new XOS 14 skin, Infinix’s Android 14 skin has less bloatware compared to earlier versions. It includes Folex, the Inifinix AI assistant built atop ChatGPT. It has built-in generative AI features. For example, the ability to make your wallpaper from text prompts. It also has a voice assistant.
Verdict:
The Infinix Note 40 Pro has great battery life. It lasts a whole day with over 51% left when I plugged it in for a night charge. The Infinix also has reverse wireless charging which lets you share your charge wirelessly to compatible devices. If you’re considering a sleek design, a fair camera, and fast performance, along with 2 years of support and without breaking the bank, the Infinix Note 40 Pro could be a good option for you.
