Finland-based tech company HMD is set to launch its upcoming phone, the HMD Skyline whose design already seems to have been leaked online. The new design is exciting because it is reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia aesthetic.
If you may not know, the Nokia Lumia was a well-known lineup of smartphones that came with Microsoft’s Windows operating system. The lineup was unfortunately discontinued in 2016 when HMD bought back the Nokia brand from Microsoft.
The HMD Skyline is set to be one of five new Android phones from HMD including the HMD Pulse trio and the rumoured HMD Atlas.
As per the leaked images, the Skyline is expected to come with an acutely rectangular design bearing similarities to the Lumia phones. However, the design is also different as it has a notched front-facing camera. The back camera module is expected to carry a 108MP lens.
The HMD Skyline is also reportedly powered by a Unisoc T760 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB storage. The front has a flat 6.67” OLED panel (FHD+, 120Hz), while the back features the aforementioned 50MP OIS camera, an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP helper. The phone will run on a 4,900mAh battery with 33W charging.
The phone is expected to be in the midrange price segment so we might see alot of features that compete with brands that have launched their smartphones this year.
This comes at a time when HMD is still working on its rebrand after dropping the Nokia brand for its smartphones and choosing to go with the ‘HMD’ label.
The device’s availability and pricing in the Kenyan market are not confirmed.
