The Realme 14 Pro series has been unveiled in India with a striking Pearl White design featuring a color-changing back panel. The lineup which includes the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Plus uses temperature-sensitive technology to alter its appearance.
Co-designed with Danish studio Valeur Designers, the Pearl White variant incorporates thermochromic pigments that begin as white but shift to shades of blue when the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius.
The change reverses as the device warms up, creating a dynamic and visually engaging experience. Realme emphasizes that this feature is reversible and durable, withstanding repeated exposure to temperature changes.
They both feature 50-megapixel main cameras and mid-range chipsets, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 in the Pro Plus model and a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 in the Pro. The large 6,000mAh batteries and 80W charging speeds on both devices are still impressive, though.
The new lineup enters a competitive market, challenging brands like Xiaomi and Infinix focusing on unique design features alongside robust hardware.
While the color-changing back panel is a novel feature, its usability depends on specific temperature conditions, potentially limiting its appeal in warmer climates. Realme assures that the thermochromic material is resilient and won’t compromise the phone’s structural integrity, but its long-term durability remains to be tested.
According to Realme, the 14 Pro series is part of its “commitment to redefining innovation and style in the smartphone industry.” The company adds, “With cutting-edge technology, bold design, and flagship-grade features, we are setting a new benchmark for what users can expect from a mid-range smartphone.”
Realme hopes to “inspire a generation of tech enthusiasts with devices that combine practicality with a sense of individuality.” Based on the official pricing in the Indian market of ₹22,999 (about KES 34,000), it’s clear that both models are midrange. So it will be interesting to see if Realme launches the series in Kenya.
