Brave has unveiled “Ask Brave,” a new AI-powered search feature designed to directly compete with Google by blending traditional search results with conversational, detailed responses.
The launch expands on Brave’s existing AI Answers, giving users a more interactive and context-rich way to explore information online. Unlike Google’s AI Overviews, which provide short summaries, the AI-powered search is built to deliver in-depth, report-like answers.
These responses can include links, embedded media, product and business details, and follow-up prompts, making the search process more comprehensive.
Brave says the goal is to reduce the need to sift through multiple sources while still ensuring transparency in how results are generated.
How to Access It
Accessing the feature is straightforward. Users can trigger Ask Brave by typing their query with “??” at the end, clicking the Ask button near the search bar, or selecting the Ask tab from the results page.
The system automatically decides when to generate a quick summary or a detailed response, depending on the query.
Privacy is where Brave seeks to differentiate itself. Conversations in Brave’s AI search are end-to-end encrypted and automatically deleted after 24 hours of inactivity.
No data is stored for tracking or profiling, addressing one of the biggest concerns around AI-driven platforms. This privacy-first design sets Brave apart from Google, which relies heavily on data-driven advertising models.
To improve accuracy, Ask Brave uses its independent search index combined with web-grounded data. This reduces the risk of AI “hallucinations” and ensures that responses remain connected to real, verifiable sources.
The company emphasizes that Ask Brave is not just a chatbot layered over results but a tool that merges conversational AI with the reliability of a traditional search engine.
Despite these strengths, Brave faces several challenges in taking on Google. The search giant’s scale, infrastructure, and speed of indexing give it an advantage in delivering up-to-date results.
Brave’s success will likely depend on how well it can balance accuracy, performance, and user trust while continuing to expand its search index.
