Safaricom Adds Four New Features to My OneApp for iPhone

Safaricom My OneApp

Safaricom has updated My OneApp for iPhone users, with version 5.2.0 now live on the App Store. The update brings four notable additions, most of them aimed at cutting down the number of times customers need to call in or visit a shop for routine account tasks.

The main update feature is Lipa na Bonga, which lets users redeem their accumulated Bonga points to pay for products and services directly within the app.

Bonga points have existed for years as a loyalty reward, but redemption often meant navigating a separate menu or USSD code. Folding that into My OneApp as a payment option makes the points easier to actually spend rather than sit unused in an account.

The app also gets Dynamic Fonts, which adjust text display based on a device’s own accessibility and font settings. It is a small change but a practical one, especially for users who have set larger text sizes on their phones for readability and previously found apps that ignored those settings.

Roaming management gets a self-service upgrade too. Customers traveling abroad can now activate or deactivate roaming directly from the app, without calling customer care.

Tied to that is the new EA Roaming Bundle, giving customers connectivity across East Africa through a single bundle rather than juggling different rates or plans per country.

For frequent regional travelers, business or otherwise, this simplifies what has historically been a confusing part of using a Kenyan line abroad.

None of these features is significant on its own, but together they show that Safaricom is positioning My OneApp as the main place to manage your account, rather than just a payments app.

Loyalty points, accessibility settings, and roaming controls all used to live in separate channels. Version 5.2.0 pulls more of that into one app.

The update is available now for iPhone users through the App Store. Android users on My OneApp should expect the same features to roll out on a similar timeline, though Safaricom has not given a specific date.
