Telco Safaricom and Nairobi City County have partnered to modernize the county’s operations and services.
The partnership will see Safaricom develop and support the “My Nairobi App” as part of the “My Nairobi” platform, which provides digital services and citizen engagement.
Nairobi County Governor Sakaja Johnson believes that this platform will enable the county to offer better services to its residents and visitors.
The platform will be accessible through various digital channels, including the M-PESA App, a website, and a USSD shortcode for feature phone users.

There will be an engagement channel called “Bonga na Sakaja” that will enable residents to provide feedback for service improvements.
Safaricom will also assist the county to design digital channels, integrating backend services, and develop payment infrastructure to ensure high availability of services.
What’s more, Safaricom will offer the county calling and data solutions, which include a “closed user group” that allows employees to make discounted calls.
Safaricom will further provide revenue collection, parking management solutions, and green credits through Digifarm.
The partnership will also bring healthcare solutions to low-income residents and improve integration with other partners like Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
As part of the smart city initiative, Safaricom will also provide smart water systems, WiFi hotspots in low-income areas and bus stops, an Integrated Traffic and Parking Management Solution, and a Disaster Recovery Site for the county.
The collaboration will run for the next two years, during which Safaricom will provide the “My Nairobi Hub” and other digital solutions to the county at no cost as a value-added service.
