A report on the African fintech ecosystem in 2023 found that Kenya has the third highest number of active fintech startups in the continent. Due to this active ecosystem, Moringa School and the Association of Fintechs in Kenya (AFIK) have joined forces to equip the Kenyan workforce with the skills necessary to thrive in the growing FinTech sector. In their MoU, the two have set out to collaborate in several key areas.
One will be the establishment of a joint advisory team with representatives from both sides. Secondly, they will work together to provide industry-aligned FinTech training programs to all interested stakeholders, including fintech professionals, professionals supporting fintech, entrepreneurs and students.
The course will be flexible, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills and culminating in a capstone project. Students will also have the opportunity to learn from industry experts through workshops, both online and in person.

Moringa School and AFIK efforts will also involve raising awareness on the importance of FinTech skills development across Kenya. Further, Moringa School will work with AFIK members to establish a pipeline of skilled FinTech graduates to address industry talent needs. This may include internship opportunities.
“We are excited to partner with AFIK to equip Kenyans with the necessary skills to participate and lead in the dynamic FinTech industry,” said Nikki Germany, CEO of Moringa School. “This MOU signifies our commitment to working together to bridge the skills gap and foster innovation within the Kenyan FinTech ecosystem.”
Moringa School is a provider of tech education in Africa, and AFIK is the umbrella organization for FinTech companies in Kenya. Fintech is huge in Africa and since 2015, it has raised more than 3 times any other start-up niche across the region.
“Fintech is reshaping the financial industry in unprecedented ways, making the right knowledge vital for growth,” said Kiptum Kidombo, a Board member, AFIK.
