Estonia-based Ampler is shaking up the e-bike industry by bringing the first commercial e-bikes, Nova and Nova Pro, that support USB-C charging.
In an era where USB-C is becoming the universal charging standard, Ampler’s move makes perfect sense, eliminating the need for proprietary chargers while increasing convenience for riders.
Ampler’s new e-bike lineup isn’t just about charging innovation; both models feature sleek designs, premium components, and a smooth riding experience. Here’s what they offer:
- Nova: A classic e-bike with a 9-speed derailleur drivetrain, 27.5-inch tires, and a streamlined design.
- Nova Pro: A premium alternative featuring a Gates Carbon belt drive, a 10-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain, and 28-inch wheels.
Both models come with Ampler’s 48V 336Wh battery, which can be fully charged in around three hours using a USB-C PD 3.1 charger with up to 140W power delivery.
Beyond that, the bikes allow reverse charging, meaning riders can also charge their smartphones and gadgets via the USB-C port, a feature that makes these e-bikes stand out.
Why USB-C for E-Bikes?
USB-C is becoming the go-to standard for charging everything from smartphones to laptops. By integrating it into e-bikes, Ampler is addressing several common issues:
- No more proprietary chargers: Forget carrying an extra bulky charger. Your laptop or phone charger can now power your e-bike.
- Easier to replace lost chargers: USB-C chargers are widely available, making it simple to find a replacement if needed.
- Sustainable and future-proof: Standardizing on USB-C helps reduce e-waste and aligns with EU regulations pushing for universal charging solutions.

Ampler’s Nova and Nova Pro are currently available for preorder across Europe, the UK, and Switzerland, with shipping expected to begin in June 2025.

With the introduction of USB-C charging in the Nova lineup, Ampler is setting a new standard in the e-bike industry. This innovation not only simplifies the riding experience but also aligns with the push for universal charging standards.
As more manufacturers take note, USB-C might just become the future of e-bike charging worldwide.
