WhatsApp is testing a new feature similar to voicemail that makes it easier to follow up after a missed call. In the latest Android beta update, users can now leave a voice message right from the call screen if the person they’re calling doesn’t pick up.
When a call goes unanswered, the interface presents three options: Cancel, Call Again, and Record Voice Message. Choosing the last option opens WhatsApp’s familiar audio recorder, letting the caller leave a quick note that is instantly delivered to the chat.
The message looks and plays just like any other voice note, but it is tied to the missed call for better context.

This update might look like a small change, but it could make a big difference in how people deal with missed calls. Instead of going back to the chat window to record and send a voice note, users can now do it directly from the call screen.
The process is faster and easier, working almost like voicemail while keeping the quick and casual feel that voice notes already have on WhatsApp.
At the moment, the feature is available only to a limited group of Android beta testers running version 2.25.23.21 of the app.
WhatsApp has not given a timeline for the full release. If testing goes smoothly, the feature is expected to roll out to more users in a future update. An iOS version will likely follow once the company improves the experience.
Privacy remains a key part of this new tool. Voice messages recorded after missed calls are protected with the same end-to-end encryption that already covers WhatsApp chats, calls, and media.
This ensures that the new option maintains the security standards users expect from the app.
Some questions remain about how widely the feature will be adopted. Frequent voice messages might clutter chats or put extra strain on storage and data use in regions with slower internet speeds.
Even so, the convenience of replying right after a missed call could make the feature appealing to many users.
