Microsoft‘s Xbox Game Camp Africa will launch its 2025 edition on December 4 in Cape Town, marking the program’s third year of developing game creators across the continent.
The 12-week structured program partners with ID@Xbox’s Developer Acceleration Program to take pre-selected professional studios from initial concepts to working prototypes.
Over 1,900 new game creators have participated since the program’s launch, with Kenyan studio Kunta Content rising as a flagship success story.
The studio developed their debut title, Hiru, during their participation in the first two Game Camp editions, recently releasing a trailer showcasing African landscapes from the Masai Mara to the Congo.
“We are bringing the continent of Africa to life in a way that has never been seen before,” said Dean Gichukie, CEO and Game Producer at Kunta Content.
“This trailer is a testament to our team’s passion and the incredible support from Xbox, starting with Xbox Game Camp, which has allowed us to showcase Africa’s richness and complexity to a global audience.”
The program addresses a critical gap in Africa’s gaming sector by providing structured mentorship in design, storytelling, publishing, and market readiness.
Team Xbox mentors guide participating studios through the development process, offering expertise that many African developers previously lacked access to.
This year’s Xbox Game Camp also happens to coincide with Africa Games Week, which positions Cape Town as a hub for connecting global and African gaming stakeholders.
