Google is transforming Chrome into an AI-first browser, embedding its Gemini AI model directly into the world’s most widely used browser.
With Chrome holding the largest market share globally, these changes are expected to change how billions of people browse and interact with the web.
At the center of this shift is a new Gemini-powered AI agent built into Chrome. The assistant can summarize webpages, answer questions, compare information across multiple tabs, and even retrieve past browsing history to help users reconnect with information they previously accessed.
The Chrome address bar is also being upgraded with an AI mode that supports conversational queries and contextual suggestions tailored to the page being viewed.
This means users can move beyond simple URL entries or search terms and instead use Chrome as a dynamic problem-solving tool.
Google is also introducing agentic workflows, which allow the AI to handle multi-step actions such as booking appointments, filling shopping carts, or compiling information from multiple sites.
These actions will be carried out with user confirmation to ensure accuracy and control.
Additionally, Chrome’s AI is being linked with other Google services like Gmail, Maps, YouTube, and Calendar, making it easier to pull in relevant information or perform quick tasks without leaving the browser.

Beyond productivity, Google is strengthening security with AI-driven protections. Chrome will now feature real-time scam and phishing detection, smarter password management, improved detection of compromised credentials, and AI analysis of suspicious sites or downloads.
Rollout Timeline
The rollout begins with desktop versions of Chrome on Windows and macOS in the United States, with mobile support for Android and iOS to follow.
English is the first supported language, while additional languages and broader international availability are expected in the coming months.
Users outside the U.S. may have to wait for a while before accessing the full range of AI capabilities.
