NTSA Retires Paper Logbook as Kenya Launches New eLogbook System

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has officially retired the paper motor vehicle logbook. As of June 10, 2026, the new electronic registration certificate system known as the eLogbook goes live, closing the chapter on a decades-old document that became as synonymous with bureaucratic frustration as it was with fraud.

NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa framed the shift as part of a broader government strategy to digitize transport services and improve efficiency across the sector.

“We are not only bringing services closer to wananchi by enabling them to access their logbooks electronically, but we are also eliminating bureaucracy and cartels.”

The eLogbook completes a trilogy of digital reforms at NTSA. The Transport Integrated Management System launched in 2016, cutting some processing times from months to days. Shortly after, the Smart Driving License followed.

Now, the eLogbook moves the most fraud-prone document of the lot, the vehicle registration certificate, fully online.

How the eLogbook Works

Under the new system, vehicle owners will be able to access, download, verify, and share their logbooks online through the eCitizen and TIMS platforms without visiting NTSA offices.

.

The document itself is built around verification. Here is what the system offers motorists

How the New NTSA System Works

Vehicle owners will no longer need to wait days or weeks for their logbook after registration or transfer, as the eLogbook will be issued immediately upon completion of the transaction.

Service delivery will be reduced from the average of 3-7 days to, in other instances, instant or same-day service delivery.

The eLogbook is not a standalone portal either. It will be integrated into all motor vehicle registration processes, including new vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, change of inspection on vehicle particulars, and other vehicle-related transactions.

Who Will Benefit From This and How?

The benefits extend well beyond the individual motorist.

eLogbook Benefits

The migration itself required a brief system window. NTSA announced that its system would experience intermittent unavailability from Tuesday, June 9 at 4PM to Wednesday, June 10 at 8AM to facilitate a smooth migration to the eLogbook system.

What Vehicle Owners Need to Do

The main thing you need to have is an active eCitizen account, since that is where the eLogbook will live. It is also worth checking that your contact details and vehicle records with NTSA are current before the rollout.

For more information and support, car owners can visit the nearest NTSA office, the NTSA Help Desk at Huduma Kenya Centers, or send an email to [email protected].
