Telkom Kenya has just announced that it has expanded its 4G network up from 9 towns to 28 towns.
Over the last one year since the change of ownership and management, Telkom has invested Sh.5billion in upgrading and densifying its network. The firm has already unveiled affordable data plans that are expected to energize the use of the new 4G network.
Speaking in Kisumu when he announced the expansion, Telkom’s CEO, Aldo Mareuse says: “In this competitive digital era, Kenyans need a choice of data provider. We are not only guaranteeing that our subscribers across the country will enjoy better quality of service and unbeatable offers, but value for their money.”
Initially, the company announced 4G availability in the following towns: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru, Nyeri, Machakos, Kiambu and Kisii.
The expansion now covers fast growing, tourism-rich and agriculture-rich towns such as:
- Kitengela
- Naivasha
- Kericho
- Limuru
- Meru
- Thika
- Ngong
- Embu
- Nyahururu
- Narok
- Kitui

Wow! That was fast
Watch out safaricom
The 4G coverage is poor
The choice of the 900 was wise. Once they get the 800, it’ll even be better.
honestly i think this is just a pr stunt by Telkom, the 4g coverage is so weak even within the cbd. the network keeps disconnecting and is so unreliable. the 4g for free also seems like a fake cuz i tried that while i was on strong 4g coverage and subscribed to it, i was surprised that it used up all my data bundle and my credit then sent a message claiming i have no data. it then switched me to 3g while was on strong 4g area in nairobi cbd and it didnt switch back to 4g until i topped up credit. if telkom continuous like this it will be worse than orange was and will never gain loyal customers. their 3g is also so unrealiable, these guys should just try to work on their infrastructure. safaricom might be expensive but it still has no competition yet in reliability.
I agree with you. Am in Nairobi and their 4G is too weak and only work in open spaces. Indoors there’s no 4G at all.
