The Communications Authority of Kenya has undergone some leadership changes over the past year. The organization received a new Director General, Ezra Chiloba, over a year ago, replacing Mercy Wanjau, who was in an interim position. Mercy had taken over from Francis Wangusi, whose tenure had come to an end.
Gilbert Kibe recently resigned as Chairman, and Mary Wambui Mungai was appointed as the new Chair by President Ruto. Kibe is said to have resigned due to personal interests.
Now, and according to a gazette notice, the CA has done some Board shakeup following the appointment of new members.
These new members are Bhoke Christine Nchama, Esther Njoki Njoroge, Mgeni Mboto Hassan, Joel Nyambane Okengo, Eric Langat, Alex Wafula Wamalwa, and Nicholas Kamuya Ng’arua.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (e) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy appoints…” read the gazette notice.
Their tenure will last for a period of three years, with effect from the 24th of February 2023 (yesterday).
The appointments of Mahmoud Mohamed Noor, Paul Muraguri Mureithi, Jackson Kiprotich Kemboi, and Laura Chite have been revoked.
On the other side of the spectrum, telco Safaricom has also appointed new members to its Board, following the departure of ICT crusader Dr. Bitange Ndemo.
