Barely 24 hours after going dark in the US, TikTok says it’s going back online. The social media platform is actively working to restore service and is collaborating with service providers in America. The Chinese app stated it will face no penalties once it goes back online.
The ByteDance-owned platform is now officially back online in the US. Accounts owned by Americans are now visible on TikTok’s For You tab. A number of the over 170 million Americans and over 7 million small businesses reliant on the platform are now posting “We are back” videos.
The move appears to be as a result of direct intervention by incoming president Donald Trump. TikTok says, “It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States.”
