Apple officially introduced the iPhone 17 family and the third-generation AirPods Pro during its September 9 event. The announcement centred on performance, design and new health and communication features that Apple hopes will define its ecosystem.
The iPhone 17 series consists of four models: the standard iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and a completely new entry called the iPhone Air.
Each device is powered by Apple’s A19 chip architecture, with the more advanced A19 Pro reserved for the iPhone Air and Pro models. The company has also placed heavy emphasis on improved connectivity through its new networking and 5G chips.
The standard iPhone 17 comes with a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display featuring ProMotion technology that allows refresh rates up to 120Hz. It is equipped with a dual 48 MP camera system and an 18 MP front camera that supports Dual Capture.
Storage begins at 256 GB, and pricing starts at $799 (about KES 104,000).
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, probably the most anticipated devices of the evening, were then unveiled. Both devices run on the A19 Pro and include a liquid cooling vapour chamber for sustained performance during heavy use.
In addition, the Pro line is fitted with a triple 48 MP camera system that comes with support for ProRes RAW. Apple has also showcased a redesigned structure that helps with thermal efficiency while using more recycled materials.
The iPhone 17 Pro begins at $1099 (about KES 143,000) and the Pro Max at $1199 (about KES 155,000).

Alongside the iPhone 17 series, Apple also announced the AirPods Pro 3, the first update to the line in three years.
Priced at $249 (about KES 32,000), they include stronger noise cancellation, five ear tip sizes with one foam option, and battery life of up to eight hours with noise cancellation or ten hours in transparency mode.
The earbuds have an IP57 rating for water and sweat resistance.

Apple has also fitted the buds with a built-in heart rate sensor that allows users to track health data such as calories burned during workouts.
Another addition is live translation, which enables real-time interpretation of conversations in several major languages. Both functions are supported through the latest iOS software.
