WhatsApp is testing several new features across its Android and iOS betas, including username reservations, reaction stickers for status updates, limits on new chats, and a redesigned sidebar for iPad.
Mac-Style Sidebar for iPad
In the WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.29.10.72, a new sidebar design inspired by the Mac version has been added to the iPad app. The sidebar replaces the bottom tab bar and organizes chats, calls, and settings more efficiently on larger screens.
This layout provides a cleaner interface and leaves room for future tools and shortcuts as WhatsApp expands its tablet support.
Username Reservation System
WhatsApp is also introducing a username reservation feature in its latest Android and iOS betas. Users will soon be able to register and reserve unique usernames before the feature officially launches.

The reservation phase ensures fairness by preventing early users from claiming popular names.
Usernames must follow WhatsApp’s rules, be between 3 and 30 characters, using only lowercase letters, numbers, underscores, and periods, and cannot start or end with a period or begin with “www.”
Once launched, usernames will let users connect without sharing phone numbers, improving privacy and control. WhatsApp is also developing an optional PIN system to block unwanted messages from people who only know your username.
Reaction Stickers for Status Updates
In the Android beta 2.25.30.2, WhatsApp is testing reaction stickers that let users add emoji-based stickers to their status updates. This feature allows people to place customizable emojis directly on photos or videos, similar to other social platforms.
Viewers can react privately, with reactions sent as encrypted messages visible only to the status author. Notifications will show who reacted and which emoji was used.
Limits on New Chats Without Replies
WhatsApp is also working on a new chat limit system found in Android beta 2.25.31.5. The feature restricts how many new messages users can send to people who haven’t replied, helping reduce spam and unwanted outreach.
Users will see a monthly limit indicator within settings and receive alerts when they approach it. Regular conversations remain unaffected; users can still reply, call, or continue existing chats. Businesses that need higher messaging capacity are encouraged to use WhatsApp Business.
Although the company hasn’t shared release timelines, most of these updates appear close to rollout across Android and iOS.
