The Kenya National Examination Council has turned on its results portal for the 2025 KCSE exams, but don’t get too excited yet. There’s nothing to see.
If you visit the site right now, you’ll find it working perfectly fine, except for the fact that there are no actual results there. Instead, you get a polite message explaining that provisional results will only show up after the official release.
This isn’t KNEC being coy when you consider what happens on release day. Nearly a million candidates sat these exams, and when results drop, those students, their parents, teachers, and probably half the country will simultaneously try to access the portal.
That kind of traffic can (and has) crashed systems before. By activating everything early, KNEC’s IT team can test the infrastructure, check for bugs, and make sure the servers won’t buckle under pressure.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba recently had to shut down rumors claiming the results were already out and that certain schools had topped nationally.
He called it “fake and misleading news” and told people to ignore it entirely. Results are expected to be announced in the first two weeks of January, which lines up with how KNEC has historically operated.
The exams wrapped up on November 21, 2025, and marking finished by December 13 with over 32,000 examiners working across 40 centers.
When the 2025 KCSE results do go live, the process should be simple enough for anyone. You can either enter your index number and exam year on the portal, send an SMS to 20076, or check at your school.
These results matter since they determine placement into universities and tertiary institutions under Kenya’s 100% transition policy.
