The KNEC results portal crashed today after Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the release of the 2024 KCSE examination results. The system, handling up to 300,000 requests per second, left many of the 965,501 candidates unable to access their results.
Students attempting to check their results using the official link, results.knec.ac.ke, encountered error messages as the portal failed to handle the surge in traffic. KNEC acknowledged the issue on social media, confirming the portal was functional but experiencing delays due to high traffic volume.
This is the second year KNEC has used an online portal instead of SMS for result distribution. The switch from SMS came after complaints about fake results circulating through text messages in previous years. However, the new system has faced similar technical challenges to its predecessor.
While KNEC provided toll-free numbers (0800724900 and 0800721410) for assistance, candidates reported these lines were consistently busy. The situation mirrors the 2023 KCPE results release, when the system also collapsed under heavy user demand.
The 2024 KCSE exams were conducted across 10,755 centers nationwide. To access results, candidates must enter their index number and registration name on the portal. KNEC has advised students to attempt accessing their results during off-peak hours while they work to resolve the technical issues.

So, what can you do if you’re still waiting to receive your results?
- Check during off-peak hours: We recommend attempting to access the portal during early morning or late evening hours when traffic is lighter. Browser-related issues can also be resolved by clearing cache and cookies or using a different browser.
- Monitor KNEC’s official channels: Candidates who are still waiting for their results should monitor KNEC’s official social media channels and website for updates. Schools may also receive direct access to results and can assist students who cannot access the portal.
