X formerly known as Twitter is taking the X possibly too far. In their recently updated terms and conditions, X now allows porn content. The previously hidden NSFW (not safe for work) communities on the platform, now have a green light to officially post adult content.
X has always had a porn content problem as pundits have commented in the past. Accounts with images of women leaving little to imagination asking you to click ░L░I░N░K░I░N░B░I░O░ have long existed. They seldom have anything else on the profile, with bios such as “I am looking for sex, but do you want?”
Over the weekend, X updated their rules to allow users to post adult content on the platform, as long as it’s clearly labelled.
The launch of Twitter Blue heralded a new era of NSFW content. Creators asked followers to subscribe to view their content as would be on platforms like OnlyFans. Possibly the move could be Elon’s new strategy to shore up revenue for the platform. X’s revenues have been on the decline. According to an analysis by Emarketer, X’s ad revenue declined 54% in 2023.
“We believe that users should be able to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually produced and distributed. Sexual expression, visual or written, can be a legitimate form of artistic expression,” X’s policy reads.
Since the purchase of Twitter by Elon Musk, X has relaxed its content restrictions even allowing violent content. “You may share graphic media if it is properly labelled, not prominently displayed and is not excessively gory or depicting sexual violence, but explicitly threatening, inciting, glorifying, or expressing desire for violence is not allowed.” part of its terms read.
After the takeover, Elon swiftly dispensed with the Trust and Safety Council and cut staff overseeing content moderation.
