A new report by Counterpoint Research has revealed the iPhone 15 as the most popular smartphone in the world for the past 3 months having sold the most units of any other device. The device was followed closely by its series siblings, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
This might come as a surprise considering the iPhone 16 was just launched during the same period. But with the price cuts that happen with every new launch, many would have expected the 15 to follow this market trend. The same was seen in Q3 2023 when the iPhone 14 lineup took all top three spots following the launch of the iPhone 15.
Despite the iPhone 15 occupying the top spots, Samsung still dominated the market overall with most taking up most spots in the top 10. The Korean firm’s budget Galaxy A series occupied most of the spots. The Galaxy S24 just about cracked the list at 10th, being outperformed by Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C.
All brands involved in the top 10 list would be happy with the performance of their models as all 10 models accounted for 19% of the total sales in the third quarter which is quite impressive.
One observation made from the report was the shift in consumer demand with users seemingly looking for smartphones in the high-end range, including those in emerging markets. This can be associated heavily with the emergence of reasonable trade-in offers and local financing plans from either the brands or third-party stores.
Samsung will be looking to take back the top spots, especially with their flagship lineups that haven’t cracked the elite list for a long time. The Galaxy S24 is the first device from the S series to get a place in the top 10 in Q3 since 2018.
The Redmi 13C can owe its success to that of its predecessor, the Redmi 12C, coming with an impressive list of specs compared to a majority of its rivals in the same price range.
